New Growth

Colored pencil, chalk pastel

Scholastic Art & Writing — Silver Key

2022

This piece was created with the intention of instilling hope in the face of the biodiversity crisis, featuring endangered species like the blue morpho butterfly, which is threatened by deforestation.

The artwork seeks to convey the message that humans possess the power to “heal” nature, just as they have the power to harm it. Hope is symbolized by blossoming flowers and vibrant, cheerful colors.

Furthermore, hummingbirds are employed as a symbol of resilience and renewal. In many cultures, the hummingbird is associated with bringing healing to those in need.

Steelhead Trout

Colored pencil

Award: Wildlife Forever Art Contest — 1st Place State, 2nd Place National

2022

Steelhead trout, the state fish of Washington, migrate to the oceans where they spend most of the year. They then return to freshwater rivers and streams to spawn.

Due to human actions populations of steelhead trout are threatened in the United States, some having nearly gone extinct in the 1940’s. Overfishing, disease, and habitat destruction resulting from the construction of dams all threaten the species. The primary purpose of this piece is to shed light on the role of steelhead trout in our waters and advocate for the conservation of freshwater and marine ecosystems.

Arctic Attraction

Colored Pencil

2023

“The Great and Wondrous Arctic (or what’s left of it)”. This message may find itself etched into a drifting fragment of ice, a remnant of the once-majestic North Pole, if we fail to take action. The Arctic, a magnificent ecosystem, stands in peril due to the relentless rise in global temperatures. Each year, more and more ice melts, threatening not only the Arctic ecosystem but also the global climate system. The main objective of this artwork is to urge action in minimizing the impact of climate change and preserving the beauty of our ecosystems, especially the Arctic.

The Hummingbird

Watercolor

2023

Through the deliberate blending of vibrant colors, this piece invites viewers to observe one of nature’s smallest, yet most beautiful creatures: the hummingbird. Characterized by striking blues and bright yellows, the hummingbird contrasts the fiery reds and oranges of the flower, exemplifying the balance that exists within nature. This peace serves as a reminder of the beauty that can be found even in the smallest creatures, providing an invitation to appreciate the life that surrounds us.

The Plastic Problem

Digital Art

2023

This poster was designed to bring awareness to the problem of plastic pollution in the oceans and its impact on marine wildlife. Plastic pollution is one the most dire environmental issues. Each year several hundred million tons of plastic is dumped in the oceans, causing the degradation of marine habitats and the deaths of thousands of organisms. By presenting the problem, the goal of this work is to inspire curiosity on the topic, moving them to learn more and ultimately take actions themselves in combating the plastic problem.

Ocean Acidification

Graphic design

2023

Inspired by one of the most pressing climate issues that threatens our seas—ocean acidification—this infographic was created to bring awareness to the issue. By presenting information taken from several scientific papers and journals, the infographic provides an overview of ocean acidification and offers solutions to inspire individuals to take actions in mitigating the problem.
The use of simple colors and graphics draws focus to the text, and the information is presented in a way that leads viewers without prior knowledge of climate change to understand the significance of ocean acidification.
